Light Bulbs for Sonic Alert® signalers and receivers
Question:
What light bulb’s can I use when the incandescent type are banned?
Answer:
The good news is there are a number of great choices, some more cost
effective than others. Here we discuss four options, our favorite is
option #1, Instant on CFL's.
Instant on CFL (compact fluorescent light), the key here is the instant on type. These are available at Lowes and Home Depot among other hardware stores and online. The good news is they work great and have a much longer life than the incandescent type.
We tested the Sylvania Super Saver instant 13- 23 Watt, compares to a 60-100 watt incandescent light bulb and sells for about $3 each. These have a life about 10 times longer than incandescent type bulbs, and end up costing about 50% less than the incandescent type, they also use a lot less energy, saving even more.
Halogen also works well and provides a warmer light than the CFL type, the down side with this option is the cost. Halogen can cost up to 2 times more than the instant on CFL type. The good news is as the phase out of incandescent gets closer to the final manufacturing date of 2013, the halogen bulb will begin to drop in price.
LED also works well but until they are mass produced they can be quite expensive, averaging about $18 per bulb or more.
Incandescent, Stock up on these while still available. The average incandescent bulb can last up to 5 years or longer when used with our signaling products
